The services offered by the organization includes care, medical intervention, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech & audiological intervention, psychotherapy, behaviour modification along with educational activities. The skill training for persons with disabilities include self-help skills to vocational skills. The services are offered more at the centre level in comparison to community based programme. People come to us from different parts of the country to receive clinical & educational services from renowned professionals.
1. Special OPD and Therapeutic services
When a child with disability comes to the institute, he/she gets enrolled under special OPD services of the institute. After a detail assessment of individual with disability by trained professional, he/she either get admission in the school/hostel or is advised for further consultation and therapeutic services. The planning of services are made as per requirement of the child with special needs and at the convenience of the parents. The services in special OPD includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, audiological intervention, psychological management and medical intervention.
2. Kids Care Unit
The organization has a unit for identification and early intervention services for infants and toddlers with developmental delay. The early intervention services being implemented by our early intervention expert along with a team of professionals from the field of medical, paramedical and special education. Since, each child is different from other, hence, services given to them as per individualized services plan.
3. Education
Special School of the organization functions from 10 AM to 4 PM in every working day. Children with mental retardation, hearing impairment, visual impairment, cerebral palsy, autism and multiple disabilities attend regular activities of the special school. The hostellers and day scholars are integrated together during day care programme. Apart from this, children from leprosy colony and belonging to poor family have been given opportunity to get education in inclusive education setup.
4. hostel care services
Hostel care services are offered to those children with disabilities who either come from far off places or orphans. Most of these children come from poor families, which cannot afford to pay hostel expenses for their children. In such case, we contact and invite people to provide sponsorship for the care and rehabilitation of these beings. Presently, there are 24 children with disability receiving hostel care services, of whom 5 are orphan, found at different places in Varanasi.
5. Vocational Training & Employment
Though it is a tough job to provide employment for disabled people, but the vocational unit of the institute trying its level best to provide vocational training and put them on the job. The skill training is provided in different trades such as computer fundamental, computer hardware, hand embroidery, envelop making, handloom weaving, candle making etc. The institute has planned to start a sheltered workshop so that more number of people with disability could be trained and employed, as well as orphan with disability can have lifelong job opportunity to work and earn their livelihood.
6. camps
Since the organization also works in the area of health and family planning, hence we organize 4-5 health camps every year at different places. Apart from these, we do organize screening and awareness camps for people with disabilities and provide needed services to them and their families. We also provide guidance and counselling services to the parents after a short assessment of their wards. So far, the organization has organized more than three dozen camps in different districts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar State. Some of these camps have been sponsored by different agencies.
7. awareness programme
It has been observed that there is a great need of creating awareness about causes, nature and types of disability along with management possibilities to integrate and bring persons with disabilities into the mainstream of society. However, the institute organizes awareness lectures, workshops, meetings, debates and different types of play to create such awareness in the community. Awareness programme also includes benefits and concession available for disabled people.
