Therapeutic Services
When a child with disability comes to the institute, he/she gets enrolled under special OPD services of the institute. After a detailed assessment of an individual with disability by a trained professional, he/she either gets admission in the school/hostel or is advised for further consultation and therapeutic services.
The planning of services is made as per requirement of the child with special needs and at the convenience of the parents. The services in special OPD include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, audio intervention, psychological management and medical intervention.
Kids Care Unit
The organization has a unit for identification and early intervention services for infants and toddlers with developmental delay. The early intervention services are implemented by our early intervention experts along with a team of professionals from the field of medical, paramedical and special education. Since, each child is different from other, hence, services given to them as per individualized services plan.
Integrated School
The Integrated School of the organization functions from 10:00 AM to 04:00 PM every working day. Children with intellectual disability, hearing impairment, visual impairment, cerebral palsy, autism and multiple disabilities attend regular activities of the special school. Apart from this, children from leprosy colonies and belonging to poor families have been given the opportunity to get education in an inclusive education setup.
Hostel Care Services
Hostel care services are offered to those children with disabilities who either come from far off places or orphans. Most of these children come from poor families, which cannot afford to pay hostel expenses for their children. In such cases, we contact and invite people to provide sponsorship for the care and rehabilitation of these beings. Presently, there are 14 children with disabilities receiving hostel care services, of whom 5 are orphans, found at different places in Varanasi.
Vocational Training
Though it is a tough job to provide employment for people with disabilities, the vocational unit of the institute is trying its level best to provide vocational training and put them on the job. The skill training is provided in different trades such as computer fundamentals, computer hardware, hand embroidery, envelope making, handloom weaving, candle making etc. The institute has planned to start a sheltered workshop so that more people with disabilities could be trained and employed, as well as orphans with disability can have lifelong job opportunities to work and earn their livelihood.
Community Based Rehabilitation
The organization provides different types of services under CBR Programme, such as education, training, treatment, rehabilitation, care and habilitation for persons with disabilities in their own areas. The children with disabilities and their parents are contacted during home visit programs and treatment and welfare services are provided by the professionals after having their proper assessment. The regular follow-ups were made by the professionals as per given intervals and parents are encouraged to carry-out the targeted work at home.
Awareness Program
It has been observed that there is a great need of creating awareness about causes, nature and types of disability along with management possibilities to integrate and bring persons with disabilities into the mainstream of society. However, the institute organizes awareness lectures, workshops, meetings, debates and different types of play to create such awareness in the community. Awareness program also includes benefits and concessions available for people with disabilities.
Parents Training Programs
Parents training programs are conducted by the institute every year based on the curriculum and study materials prepared by IGNOU, New Delhi. All the parents were taught about handling and caring for their children with disabilities towards their acceptance and independence in the family and community. They were also sensitized about the role of parents towards the inclusion of their children at different places.
