Success Story of Deepti Maurya
Born with a hearing impairment, Deepti Maurya faced unique challenges growing up. From a young age, she showed a keen interest in sports, particularly cricket. While many girls in her community were encouraged to focus on academics alone, Deepti found her calling on the cricket field.
Her journey took a significant turn when she enrolled at the Integrated Institute for the Disabled, Varanasi an institution dedicated to provide education and skill development for differently-abled students. Here, she not only excelled in academics but also discovered and nurtured her cricketing talent. As Deepti’s skills sharpened, she began to participate in district and state-level deaf cricket tournaments, where her consistent performances caught the attention of selectors. In 2021, she achieved a major milestone when she was selected to play for the Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA) Women’s Team.

Representing the IDCA Women’s Team was a dream come true for Deepti. It gave her the opportunity to compete against the best hearing-impaired female cricketers in India. Her achievements are a testament to the fact that talent and dedication matter more than societal expectations. By breaking barriers and proving her worth in the IDCA Women’s Team, she has become a role model for other hearing-impaired women who wish to excel in cricket.
